VIBESTREET’S CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

MINI-HOP

Exposure at a young age is important!

This is a class for the tiniest dancer! Teaching your little ones about musicality, rhythm and co-ordination. The intentionally short-term program is perfect for any little dancer wanting to get an early start to their dance training!

Sing-a-longs, grooves and super funky moves!

*Parent participation is required.

HIPHOP

Depending on the level, each class will begin with a brief warm up consisting of grooves, isolations, some stretching and basic co-ordination drills.

Beginner classes tend to work on the above for the first half an hour of class and then add across the floors, while more experienced classes will spend less time on the basics as dancers are expected to have this knowledge.

Our HipHop classes are available in various levels with various instructors. Most of our classes will learn choreography + combos each class (with the exception of HipHop Technique classes).

This class is perfect for someone who has never danced before!

This class moves at a slower pace to ensure dancers understand moves and instruction as we hone in on the basic foundation of HipHop dance + movement. In this class we build an understanding of foundation with beginner moves/grooves curated into combos to assist with retention and repetition.

Foundations of HipHop

HIPHOP TECHNIQUE

This class focuses on grooving, execution, texture, isolations, plus touches on various street styles such as Popping, Waving, Locking, Boogaloo, Old School Grooves, New School styles and more!

These classes are great for any dancer!

SASS + HEELS

This choreography class is girl power in dance form!

While channeling your inner diva, you’ll be dancing to your favorite pop icons and gaining confidence by the step! This class focuses on body awareness, isolations, body rolls, textures and hair flips. It’ll be sure to heighten your vibes and bring out your sassy side!

FREESTYLE / BATTLES + JAMS

Learn the ways of the cypher with grooves, drills, concepts, and exercises to help elevate your freestyle.

This year we added a new element to the freestyle class: BATTLES.

We cover the rules, the history, and how to make it to the finals with Battle Prep 101.

BREAKDANCE

Learn and review the foundations of breakdance. This class will progress as needed based on the age/level of students. Usually these classes are less structured with the opportunity to grow in freestyling, cyphering and learning from fellow breakers as well as creating an atmosphere to explore strength, coordination and ability.

HOUSE

Though House is not technically a ‘street style,’ it’s often associated with HipHop dance culture we are offer intermittent “open level” terms to satisfy your ‘up-groove’ needs! This class focuses on breaking down the elements of House dance, such as "footwork,” "Jacking," “Lofting" and retraining your HipHop down groove into the House up groove. House dance often consists of fast foot-oriented steps combined with fluid movements in the torso, as well as floor work.

POPPING

Popping is another specialty class offered as an ‘open level’ and is a great introduction to Popping culture. It’s based on the technique of quickly contracting and relaxing muscles to cause a ‘jerk’ in the dancer's body, referred to as a ‘pop’ or a ‘hit.’ It’s done continuously to the rhythm of a song in combination with various movements and poses.

These dance styles include The Robot, Waving, Gliding and Tutting. Gabriel will guide you through a series of exercises and routines designed to improve your technique and help you master the fundamentals of popping. Whether you're looking to enhance your existing dance skills or try something new, this is the perfect opportunity to tap into the art of popping.

LOCKING

Not to be confused with Popping, Locking is an old school funk style and the name is based on the concept of 'locking' movements, which means freezing from one fast moment and "locking" in a certain position, holding that position for short while and then continuing in the same speed as before.

It relies on fast and precise arm and hand movement combined with more relaxed hips and legs. The movements are generally large and exaggerated and often very rhythmic and tightly synced with music. Locking is quite a performance oriented dance style, often interacting with the audience and some moves are quite comical in nature.
